Short description / Current status and future steps / Lessons learned: = Project description = {{Award}} ==Short description of the project== Our operational police officers can spend over 30% of their shift in police stations receiving briefings as well as accessing and inputting intelligence into our data bases. As invaluable as these activities are in reducing crime, they impact on the time officers have to spend directly interacting with our communities. The over riding objective of the project is to reduce the fear of crime in our communities and increase effectiveness by enabling officers to securely access and input data and photographs on both local and national systems whilst out of the police station and consequently reduce the time they have to spend in stations by an hour per shift. For every 1000 officers using the devices then this reduction is the equivalent of 144,000 hours per annum, or an additional visibility equivalent of 100 officers. The cost of employing this number of officers would be in excess of £2.5 million per annum. ==Current status and future steps for the project== After succesful a pilotForce wide implementation has just commenced. New developments for additional applications and e-forms are also about to enter pilot stages. ==Lessons learned== To ensure that the project is User Driven. That technology is used as an enabler of user identified processes which will make a real difference to our community and our officers. Not to compromise on the objectives but be willing to change the means of delivering them. Not to allow project creep. Appointment of User Champions. To communicate openly, honestly and frequently with all stakeholders. To ensure that you have project and development teams with enormous levels of enthusiasm, commitment and capability.
